① ABOUT THIS PROJECT
Project of an area map to showcase the most interesting places near the hostel UNPLAN Shinjuku. It is made on Illustrator. The size is a A4 tri-fold map and it's printed on a coated paper to make it more resistant.
② PROJECT GOALS
To create an area map to showcase the most interesting places near our hostel so the guests can move easily around the area and also have the best recommendations of things to do.
③ PROJECT TIMELINE
- Research online to find restaurants, shops and places of interest in the area. This took about one week.
- We ended with a long list, so we had a meeting to decide which places to showcase in the design.
- We went to each one of those places to take photos and also ask the owners for approval to include the photos in the project. This took us one month.
- I was in charge of the design and it took me about two months to finish it. I used the official font and the company colors so that everything matches the company brand. All the design was made on Adobe Illustrator.
④ PROJECT BENEFICTS
Overall, the feedback for this project was positive. A lot of guests used the maps and we could see them carrying them around checking for places to go. We, as front staff, also used them actively and gave each guest a map when they checked-in.
The panel in the middle is the cover. It includes the logo of the hostel with title and other information about the property. When you unfold it shows the side panels. The first one includes a brief description about Shinjuku, the area where the hostel is located, as well as other company hostels.
The "Experience", "Restaurants" and "Shopping" areas include all the descriptions of the places hightligtehodfe in the map. They are divided by colors to make them easier to check.
